Weekly Feature: Once Upon a Story...

'Once Upon a Story' is a weekly feature in which we go back in time and focus on a specific novel that was released in the same month we're in right now (in this case May), but a few years back! It can be a women's fiction classic from the 1990's or perhaps a great chick lit read from 2011. I thought it would be nice to not just focus on recent releases, but also take the chance to jump back in time once a week and look back at wonderful reads that have been released over the years!

This week, we're travelling back to May 2006 to look back at...

What would you do for the friend who broke your heart?

Best friends Kamryn Matika and Adele Brannon thought nothing could come between them - until Adele did the unthinkable and slept with Kamryn's fiancé, Nate. Worse still, she got pregnant and had his child. When Kamryn discovered the truth about their betrayal she vowed never to see any of them again.

Two years later, Kamryn receives a letter from Adele asking her to visit her in hospital. Adele is dying and begs Kamryn to adopt her daughter, Tegan. With a great job and a hectic social life, the last thing Kamryn needs is a five year old to disrupt things. Especially not one who reminds her of Nate. But with no one else to take care of Tegan and Adele fading fast, does she have any other choice? So begins a difficult journey that leads Kamryn towards forgiveness, love, responsibility and, ultimately, a better understanding of herself.

In May 2006, Dorothy Koomson's third novel, 'My Best Friend's Girl' was released. Those of you who are familiar with Dorothy's work will know that she is mainly known for her captivating, gut-wrenching, heartful stories. She is one of those authors who really has her own distinctive voice, and her novels always manage to grip me until the very last page. 'My Best Friend's Girl' is no different, a book that will make you both laugh and cry and leave you filled with all kinds of emotions. Definitely recommended to those who are looking for chick lit with a dose of drama!

Be sure to visit the blog next week for another blast from chick lit past with 'Once Upon a Story...'!
